# Trading On NEAR

> What works differently when you trade a NEAR coin.

NEAR coins trade from your balance like any other coin. To open one, paste its NEAR address: a name ending in `.near`, or a 64-character id.

Your first buys can take longer while the money moves over from Solana. Once your NEAR wallet holds USDC, buys are fast.

## Where your money goes

* A sell lands in your NEAR wallet as USDC on NEAR, or as NEAR for coins on Shards. It still counts in your **Balance**, and Dawn uses it for your next buy or send.
* A failed NEAR buy leaves the money in your NEAR wallet, with no fee taken.
* To move it to Solana yourself, tap **Move to USDC** on its row in your [portfolio](/trading/portfolio).
